Match report2 August 2026

Ellery’s 84 sets up 47-run win over Ashcombe

Wrenfield moved back into second place in County League Division One with a 47-run win over Ashcombe at The Meadow, a solid batting effort backed up by four wickets for Raj Nayar.

Put in on a dry, slow surface, the Wrens lost an opener in the fourth over before Tom Ellery and Dan Marchant added 112 for the third wicket. Ellery drove handsomely through the covers on his way to 84, holing out with eight overs to go, and Marchant’s 51 kept the rate ticking. A late cameo from the lower order took us to 236 for 6 from the 50, which looked about par given how the ball was gripping.

Ashcombe were 96 for 1 at the halfway point and looked well set, but Nayar’s spell either side of drinks — 4 for 31 from his ten, all of them bowled or lbw — turned the innings, and the last six wickets went down for 41 runs. All out for 189 in the 45th. Marlingford at home next Saturday, 12.30 start; teas at 3.30 and we are still two Saturdays short on the rota.
