Our history
Wrenfield Cricket Club was founded in 1884 on a strip of glebe land behind the church, and the club has never played anywhere else. The Meadow was formally leased from the parish in 1921 for a peppercorn rent and a promise to cut the grass, an arrangement that has survived four vicars and one very determined boundary dispute.
The pavilion was built in 1949 from a war-surplus timber hut, extended in 1978, and rebuilt properly in 2008 after a winter flood took the floor out. The club’s honours are modest and much repeated: Division Two champions in 1963 and 1991, the County Cup in 1987, and a 1974 draw with a touring county second XI that is still described locally as a moral victory.
Today Wrenfield runs two Saturday elevens, a Sunday side, a Wednesday evening team and a colts section of around ninety children. The square is looked after by two volunteers and one very old mower, and the teas are still made by people who have been making them for thirty years.

The committee meets on the first Monday of the month at The Meadow. Members are welcome; minutes are posted behind the bar and emailed to anyone on the newsletter list.
Finding The Meadow
- By car
- The Meadow is behind St Anne’s church at the end of Church Lane. Parking for around 30 cars on the hard standing; please do not park on the lane itself, the farm needs it. Sat nav: WQ4 6BN.
- By bus
- The 41 stops at the Wrenfield village green, a four-minute walk down Church Lane. Sunday service is limited.
- On foot
- The footpath from the village green runs along the river and comes out at the top boundary. Please shut the gate.
- Accessibility
- Level access from the car park to the pavilion, accessible toilet inside, and hard standing for wheelchairs at the pavilion end with a clear view of the square.

Hours change in the close season and for private hire. The pavilion is available to hire for parties and wakes — ask at the bar.

Come and be part of it
Nets are Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm through the summer, colts in the first hour. New players of any standard are welcome — the Sunday side in particular will find a game for anyone who turns up.
