Our history
Hollowbrook Town were formed in 1897 by workers from the old brickworks on Meridian Road, playing their first three seasons on a rented field behind the Old Forge Inn. The move to The Hollow came in 1911, and apart from two years when the ground was requisitioned during the Second World War, the club has played here ever since.
The post-war years were the club’s best. Town won the Meridian League three times in the 1950s and reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup in 1958, losing 2–1 at home to a Football League side in front of a record 4,180 — a crowd figure that still gets brought up in the clubhouse most Saturdays.
Floodlights arrived in 1974, the current stand was built by volunteers over two winters in the early 1990s, and the clubhouse was extended in 2015. Today the club runs a first team, reserves, an under-18s side, a women’s first team and a veterans’ side, with everything above the pitch done by people who do it for nothing.

The committee meets on the first Monday of the month at The Hollow. Members are welcome; minutes are posted behind the bar and emailed to anyone on the newsletter list.
Finding The Hollow
- By car
- The Hollow is on Meridian Road, half a mile north of the town centre. Free parking for around 60 cars behind the clubhouse, with overflow on the industrial estate opposite on busy matchdays. Sat nav: HB7 2LN.
- By bus
- The 24 and 24A run from the bus station to the Meridian Road stop, two minutes’ walk from the turnstiles. Last bus back into town is 10.40pm.
- On foot
- Fifteen minutes from the High Street: follow Church Street to the end, cross the river bridge and the floodlights are on your right.
- Accessibility
- Level access from the car park to the clubhouse and the terrace. Six accessible viewing spaces beside the halfway line with a dedicated toilet in the clubhouse. Assistance dogs welcome.

Hours change in the close season and for private hire. The clubhouse is available to hire for parties and wakes — ask at the bar.
