Four-try Falcons hold off Amberton at Falcon Park

Ben Fenner’s two first-half tries set up a 27–19 win over Amberton at a windy Falcon Park, with the fourth try arriving nine minutes from time to secure the bonus point and lift the Falcons to third in Regional 1 South.

Vale led 17–5 at the break, Fenner going over twice from close range after long spells of forward pressure and Gareth Pryce landing both conversions plus a penalty from halfway with the wind. Amberton were much better after the interval, scoring twice in ten minutes to close to within two, and for a quarter of an hour it looked like it might get away from us. Chidi Okonjo’s score in the corner steadied it, and Tom Vasey’s finish off a driving lineout on 71 minutes was the fourth try and the fifth point.

Stonewell are at Falcon Park next Saturday, 3pm, with the 2nd XV kicking off at 1pm on the back pitch. Clubhouse open from noon, food on until 5pm, and the Falcons Lottery draw is at full time. If you can help with the gate or behind the bar, Dave in the clubhouse has the rota.
